Papel Picado or Paper Cut Out is a traditional folk art used in Mexico to create colorful decorations for Festivals or everyday celebrations. Before it was used in Churches to let the people know that a special event was happening.
Artisans study for many years to learn the techniques of Papel Picado, which are passed down from generations to generation. Sharp chisels are used to cut through as many as 50 layers of paper at one time. Each of the ten flags is unique in design and color. Made 100 % by hand.
